About the Alaska Zone

Alaska is the statewide navigation Zone for trail, recreation, stewardship, access, and outdoor-community topics that apply across the state. Use the regional Alaska Zones for local trail knowledge, clubs, events, volunteer opportunities, stewardship projects, and place-specific discussion.

Alaska spans the Inside Passage, Southcentral Alaska, the Interior, Southwest Alaska, and the Arctic, with landscapes ranging from temperate rainforest, tidewater glaciers, island coastlines, boreal forest, tundra, volcanic terrain, salmon rivers, and the Brooks Range to some of the most remote national parks and public lands in the United States. Major managed landscapes include Denali, Wrangell-St. Elias, Glacier Bay, Kenai Fjords, Katmai, Lake Clark, Gates of the Arctic, and Kobuk Valley national parks and preserves; Tongass and Chugach national forests; Alaska State Parks; national wildlife refuges; BLM public lands; and extensive borough, municipal, tribal, and local trail systems.

We have divided it into these regions:

Alaska - Inside Passage
Alaska - Southcentral
Alaska - Interior
Alaska - Southwest
Alaska - Arctic

Please go to those regions to discuss local topics, and use this statewide Zone exclusively for statewide topics.
