How Access and Participation Work in Outpost

Outpost is visible in layers. What you can read, where you can participate and what private areas you can enter may depend on whether you are logged in, your connection to a club or event, your role and the participation rules of the Space.

Reading and participating are different

Some public orientation and pinned guidance may be visible before login.

A login is required to create Discussions, reply or otherwise participate. Some Spaces are available broadly to logged-in members. Others are private, role-based or limited to people with a particular connection.

Being able to see a Space or Discussion does not necessarily mean you have permission to post there.

Different Spaces have different boundaries

A club may control access to its private Space.

Leadership Spaces may require confirmation of the relevant role.

A gathering or event Space may distinguish between public orientation, participant discussion, partner work and staff coordination.

Land & Community Regions may welcome public reading while directing different kinds of participation to specific pinned Discussions.

These boundaries are intended to keep each Space useful for the people and work it serves.

Access is not a ranking

Broader access does not mean greater importance, approval or status.

Access reflects purpose and connection. Someone may have deep access to one club, event or professional Space and limited access elsewhere.

Requesting access

Before requesting access, read the pinned guidance in the relevant Space and confirm that it matches your real connection or intended participation.

When making a request, identify the Space, the role or relationship involved and enough context for the people responsible for that area to understand the request.

When something seems wrong

If you can read a Space but cannot create or reply to a Discussion, the boundary may be intentional.

Check the pinned guidance first. If your access still appears incorrect, report the issue through Site Feedback and include the Space, what you were trying to do and the exact result you received.

Outpost works best when people can find the areas that fit their real relationships without opening every part of the community to everyone.
