Outpost Commons is the shared gathering place for outdoor-community discussion that crosses places, activities, roles, and organizations without having a clearer home elsewhere in Outpost.
Most communities need room to develop their own knowledge, relationships, and ways of working. They also benefit from a place where their paths can cross. Outpost Commons connects those wider conversations, allowing people from different parts of outdoor life to recognize shared questions, exchange perspectives, and learn from one another.
Use this Space for broad ideas and discussions that genuinely cross community boundaries without becoming a specific project, local issue, event, leadership matter, professional-practice discussion, or commercial conversation.
Start with the clearest home
Before creating a Discussion here, consider whether another Space offers a more useful and focused home.
Use Land & Community for discussion grounded in a particular place or Region, including local clubs, organizations, events, stewardship opportunities, access, conditions, and outdoor communities.
Use Clubs for participating club communities and private club activity.
Use Club Leadership or Race Directors for discussion connected to those particular roles and their work.
Use Physical & Personal Development Professionals for cross-disciplinary discussion among coaches, physical therapists, trainers, clinicians, guides, educators, facilitators, travel coaches, and other practitioners whose work helps people grow, adapt, recover, perform, explore, and live more fully. That Space is also the appropriate home for relevant, disclosed discussion of professional services, programs, courses, resources, and practice.
Use Collaboration when people are organizing a project, coordinating work, or connecting related efforts across organizations or places.
Use Event Atlas for event Discussions organized by broad geography.
Use Landmark Gatherings for the continuing communities formed around recurring gatherings.
Use Vendors Tent for commercial promotion, solicitation, vendor marketing, product or service offers, and other commercial speech that does not belong in a more specific approved professional Space.
Use Site Feedback for problems, corrections, and ideas about improving Outpost.
Use Welcome & Orientation for introductions, help understanding Outpost, and questions about where a Discussion belongs.
Outpost Commons does not replace these more focused Spaces. It is the right place when a subject genuinely crosses their boundaries but has not become local, operational, professional, commercial, event-specific, or project-based.

Help organize what the community creates
Outpost is powered by the people who use it. Its value grows when members contribute knowledge, ask useful questions, correct incomplete information, make connections, and turn discussion into real-world action.
A Commons Discussion may reveal that a subject deserves a more specific home. Staff may move it when another Space or Zone becomes the clearer place for the conversation. That is part of keeping Outpost useful, not a penalty.
Clear titles and enough context help people understand why a subject matters across communities. Members can also strengthen a Discussion by pointing toward organizations, existing work, professional resources, or other Outpost Spaces where part of the subject is already being addressed.
When a broad idea becomes a specific shared project, carry the work forward in Collaboration. When it develops into sustained practitioner discussion, move it into Physical & Personal Development Professionals or another role-specific Space.
Keep commercial speech in clearly designated Spaces
Outpost is designed so people can participate in local, community, stewardship, event, and general discussions without every interaction becoming a sales opportunity.
Commercial promotion, solicitation, lead generation, vendor marketing, and promotional replies are permitted only in Spaces that clearly allow them. Affiliations must be disclosed, and the contribution must remain within the purpose and rules of that Space.
Vendors Tent is the general home for commercial speech, including vendor promotion, product and service offers, and commercial inquiries.
Physical & Personal Development Professionals is a narrower approved exception. Because professional knowledge and professional services are often closely connected, practitioners may discuss their services, credentials, programs, courses, resources, events, and other professional work when their affiliation is clear and the contribution is relevant and useful to the discussion.
Commercial speech does not belong in Outpost Commons. Vendors, coaches, clinicians, guides, and other professionals may participate here as ordinary members of the community and contribute relevant knowledge, but they may not use this Space to market products, services, programs, or business opportunities.
Keeping commercial speech in clearly marked Spaces allows people to understand when promotion may be part of the conversation and allows broader discussion throughout Outpost to remain useful and easy to trust.
