Outpost Commons is the shared gathering place for outdoor-community discussion that does not have a more specific home elsewhere in Outpost.
Use this Space for broad questions, ideas and conversations that genuinely cross places, activities or organizations without becoming a specific project, local issue, event, leadership matter or commercial discussion.
Start with the clearest home
Before creating a Discussion here, check whether it belongs in a more specific Space:
-
Use Land & Community for discussion grounded in a particular place or Region, including help finding local clubs, organizations, events, stewardship opportunities and outdoor communities.
-
Use Clubs for participating club communities and private club activity.
-
Use Club Leadership or Race Directors for role-specific operating discussion.
-
Use Collaboration for shared projects, coordinated work and connections among people working on related efforts across organizations or places.
-
Use Event Atlas for geographically organized event Discussions.
-
Use Landmark Gatherings for continuing communities built around recurring gatherings.
-
Use Vendors Tent for all commercial promotion, solicitation and vendor marketing.
-
Use Site Feedback for problems, corrections and ideas about improving Outpost.
-
Use Welcome & Orientation for introductions and help understanding how Outpost is organized or where a particular type of Discussion belongs.
Outpost Commons is not a substitute for those Spaces. It is the right place when a Discussion genuinely crosses their boundaries but has not become a specific project or coordinated effort.
Ask broad questions that can lead somewhere useful
Good Commons Discussions might include:
-
ideas that affect several activities or Regions;
-
outdoor-community trends and shared challenges;
-
questions about participation, belonging or outdoor culture that are not limited to one Region;
-
reflections on how outdoor communities, organizations and events can work better;
-
broader questions about how people discover, join and stay connected to outdoor communities.
Keep the Discussion connected to outdoor life and the communities, organizations, events and places that support it.
Help organize what the community creates
Outpost is powered by the people who use it.
A useful Commons Discussion may reveal that a subject deserves a more specific home. Staff may move a Discussion when another Space or Zone becomes the clearer place for it. That is organization, not a penalty.
Members can help by using clear titles, adding enough context for others to understand the question and pointing people toward the organizations or Spaces already doing relevant work.
When a broad idea turns into a specific shared project, move the work into Collaboration.
Keep commercial speech in Vendors Tent
Commercial promotion, solicitation, lead generation, vendor marketing and promotional replies are permitted only inside Vendors Tent.
Members and vendors may participate here as ordinary members of the community, but they may not use Outpost Commons to market products, services or business opportunities.
Take broad discussion toward real connection
The best Commons Discussions help people recognize a shared issue, understand a broader outdoor-community question or turn an idea into a useful next step.
Start broadly when the subject truly crosses boundaries. When it becomes local, operational or project-based, move it to the Space built for that work.
