About the South Dakota Zone

South Dakota is the statewide navigation Zone for trail, recreation, stewardship, access, and outdoor-community topics that apply across the state. Use the regional South Dakota Zones for local trail knowledge, clubs, events, and stewardship projects.

South Dakota spans the glacial lakes and prairie country of East River, the Missouri River breaks, the badlands and mixed-grass prairie of West River, and the Black Hills. Major managed landscapes include South Dakota State Parks, Badlands National Park, Wind Cave National Park, Black Hills National Forest, Buffalo Gap National Grassland, Fort Pierre National Grassland, and Missouri River recreation areas.

We have divided it into these regions:

South Dakota - East River

South Dakota - West River & Badlands

South Dakota & Wyoming - Black Hills

Iowa, Nebraska & South Dakota - Siouxland

Please go to those regions for local information, organizations, and topics, reserving this statewide Zone exclusively for statewide topics.
