Use This Zone to Navigate Idaho

Welcome to Idaho’s statewide navigation Zone.

Idaho’s outdoor geography changes substantially from the forests and lakes of the Panhandle to the Palouse and Clearwater country, the central mountains, the Treasure Valley and Owyhee high desert, the Snake River Plain, and the Yellowstone, Teton, and Bear Lake landscapes of eastern and southeastern Idaho.

Use this Zone to find the appropriate regional Zone and to locate statewide agencies, programs, maps, and stewardship resources.

Statewide and Regional Participation

Use this statewide Zone for subjects that genuinely apply across Idaho or affect multiple Regions, including:

  • statewide agency programs or policy changes

  • statewide trail, access, fire, wildlife, or recreation resources

  • questions about which Region includes a particular Idaho county

  • statewide stewardship initiatives

  • announcements or issues that affect outdoor communities in several parts of Idaho

Use the regional Zones below for place-specific participation, including:

  • trail, road, river, park, or campground conditions

  • visitor-planning and safety questions

  • local clubs, events, and volunteer projects

  • access changes, closures, maintenance, or restoration work

  • customary trail-sharing, dog-access, parking, or direction-of-travel practices

  • reports about damage, washouts, downed trees, blocked culverts, or other precise problems

When reporting a problem tied to an exact point, include the what3words address together with the place name, date observed, and a concise description.

Search the appropriate regional Zone first using the magnifying-glass icon at the top of the screen. Add to an existing open discussion when one fits, or start a focused new discussion when it does not.

Idaho Regions

The following eight Regions include every Idaho county. Some cross state lines because outdoor communities, watersheds, trail systems, and working landscapes do not stop at state boundaries.

ID, MT & WA - Spokane, Coeur d’Alene & Bitterroot

ID & WA - Pullman, Moscow, Palouse & Clearwater

ID, OR & WA - Lewiston, Wallowas & Hells Canyon

ID & OR - Boise, Payette & Owyhee Canyonlands

ID - Sun Valley, Sawtooths & Salmon-Challis

ID, MT & WY - Yellowstone, Tetons & Idaho Falls

ID - Twin Falls, Pocatello & Snake Plain

ID, UT & WY - Bear Lake, Cache & Star Valleys

Choose the Region containing the county or exact place involved. A cross-state Region is still the correct Idaho participation Zone for the Idaho counties within its footprint.
